Microneedling

Enhance your natural beauty, be you with Bonnie You

Young woman recieving microneedling treatment with Dermapen on her chin

Microneedling is a rejuvenating treatment that induces collagen production. Creating micro-injuries at varying depths in the top layer of the skin triggers a healing response. Microneedling is an excellent skincare treatment for those wanting to reduce: fine lines, scaring, hyperpigmentation issues, enlarged pores, rosacea or stretch marks

Our clinic uses  the Dermapen 4™ Microneedling Pen, there’s simply no comparison to the Dermapen 4; it’s the most advanced microneedling device available. As the first digital device in the world, it combines bluetooth, RFID, dual power and turbo-cut battery systems to offer the fastest microneedling treatment on the planet. Dermapen 4 glides over the skin creating millions of fine, vertical fractional channels up to 104% faster than other microneedling pens. These channels can carry up to 80% more topical nutrients deeper into the skin. The micro-injuries trigger a natural process of repair, increasing the production of collagen and elastin and visibly improving a wide range of skin concerns.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many treatments are recommended? Rejuvenation: 4-6 treatments 4 weeks apart Acne scarring: 6 treatments 6 weeks apart Stretch marks: Up to 10 treatments 4-6 weeks apart

Should I prepare my skin before having a DermaPen Treatment? Please do not have any other facial treatments for 2 weeks before your procedure. Always wear high SPF sunscreen to protect your skin. For optimal results we recommend 2 weeks of effective active treatment creams such as Vitamin A, C. Please stop your active skincare products 5 days before the procedure.

How long should it take before I see results? Typically, you will see some results after the first treatment. Lasting and more significant results will occur after 4 to 6 treatments (spaced 4-6 weeks apart). Your skin will continue to improve over the next 6-12 months after a course of treatments and when combined with the recommended post treatment care.

Is the treatment painful? For minimum needle depths Dermapen treatments are painless. For deeper treatments over 0.5mm, a topical anaesthesia cream is usually applied before treatment and will render the treatments pain-free. The ability to use a numbing cream will be assessed based on your medical history.

Is there any downtime after treatments? You may experience facial redness for 12-48 hours after the treatment. Most people are able to return to normal daily activities immediately after the treatment. Application of a breathable camouflage will seal the skin and cover any redness for an immediate return to work. Please plan to stay out of direct sun exposure for 2 weeks after the procedure as it may trigger hyperpigmentation.

Who should not get Dermapen treatments? - People recovering from any form of illness within the last week. - People with active inflammation or infection. - People with skin cancer, active cold sores, abscesses, warts open wounds, sunburn, excessively sensitive skin, dermatitis or inflammatory rosacea in the areas to be treated. - People with hemophilia or taking blood thinners such as daily fish oil, Warfarin, Aspirin, Eliquis, Pradaxa, Plavix or Xarelto. - People taking any form of medication that triggers your immune system. - Those who are pregnant or breastfeeding (lactating). - People who have had plastic surgery in the last 6 months. - People who have taken Accutane, Roaccutane or Isotane within the past 12 months, or have received chemotherapy or radiation therapy. - People under 18 years of age.

What should I do on the day of my treatment? - Do not wear any makeup. - Tie your hair away from your face. - Avoid alcohol and cigarettes 24-48 hours before and after your treatment, as these may contribute to increased swelling, bruising, and irritation.

Can I get the treatment if I have had cold sores? If you have had a cold sore before, it is recommended that you are pre-treated with acyclovir the day before your treatment and the following day. You can buy this from your local pharmacy. The virus that caused the cold sore lies dormant in the nerve and reactivation can sometimes occur from the needles during an aesthetic procedure.
